Conductor
Donald Trott
Dr. Donald Trott is currently the Director of Choral Activities at the University of Mississippi in Oxford. He conducts the 60 voice Concert Singers, the 70 voice Men’s Glee and shares conducting duties for the 130 voice University Chorus. The Concert Singers performed during the proceedings of the 2007 American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) National Convention in Miami and in the previous year appeared on the Southern Division ACDA Convention in Charleston, West Virginia. As coordinator of the graduate choral conducting program, he teaches choral conducting and choral literature. Dr. Trott is past president of the Southern Division of the ACDA and of the Virginia chapter of ACDA. He served on four division convention planning committees, and six national convention planning committees including holding the position of program chair for the 1997 convention in San Diego. He received his Bachelor of Music Education degree cum laude from Westminster Choir College and both the Master of Music degree in choral conducting and Doctor of Musical Arts degree in choral conducting from the University of Oklahoma. While a student at Westminster he had the opportunity to sing under Leonard Bernstein, Raphael Kublick, Eric Leinsdorf and Zubin Mehta. His previous teaching positions have been in Oklahoma and Virginia including fourteen years at Longwood University in Farmville. He is an active conductor and clinician most recently conducting the 2007 Oregon All-State Men’s Choir. Dr. Trott’s work on late eighteenth century performance practice has resulted in articles in The Choral Journal as well as presentations at conventions for ACDA and the College Music Society. Dr. Trott’s most recent publication is a monograph sponsored by ACDA titled Nineteenth Century Choral Music – An Annotated Bibliography of Music Suitable for College and University Choirs.
